Landscapes on Display at UCC Keene in February

February 26, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Zimmerli Betsy

An exhibit of landscapes of the Monadnock Region by photographer Betsy Zimmerli and her late husband, painter Ed Zimmerli, is on display in the East Room, lower level, of the United Church of Christ in Keene through the month of February. The exhibit is open to the public, free of charge.

The gallery is open Sundays after worship services, 11 am to noon. The weekday entrance to UCC-Keene is at the rear door off Vernon Street, where there is a doorbell for visitors if the double doors are locked. This is also a handicapped accessible entrance.

Betsy Zimmerli began her interest in photography back in her high school years, when film was in black and white only. She moved with the times to the automatic features of digital photography and especially enjoys the landscape opportunities of the Monadnock Region. She also enjoys using a digital program to enhance her photos with various “painting” effects.

Ed Zimmerli, now deceased, began painting when he and Betsy moved to Keene more than 20 years ago. He sang bass in the Church choir for many years. In his art, he used a palette knife exclusively, which gave an impasto effect to his landscapes and barn images. Included in this exhibit is his pen and ink sketch of Martin Luther King, Jr., from a cover of Ebony Magazine in the 1970s.
