SUMMARY:Florence Rawls Paintings Through April 30
DESCRIPTION:Paintings by Florence (Lornie) Rawls of Jaffrey are on display at the United Church of Christ in Keene\, 23 Central Square\, Keene\, now through April 30\, 2023. Lornie’s work features representational landscapes and still lifes in gouache\, acrylic and oil. Her palette is vibrant and expressive. \nThe Church’s East Room Gallery\, located on the first floor\, is open Sundays from 11 am to 1 pm. Contact the artist at 617-908-6076 for an appointment to view her paintings on Wednesdays and Fridays. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Enter the Church through the rear entrance off Vernon Street. \nA graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)\, Lornie retired from a career in fundraising and communications and moved from Boston to the Monadnock Region in 2019 to be near one of her daughters. In November 2020\, she began regular painting practice using her photos of landscapes\, many with some unexpected element. \nWith a tradition of supporting the arts\, the Monadnock Region offers many opportunities for artists to show their work. Friends at the UCC in Keene are giving Lornie that opportunity and a percentage of sales will benefit the Church.

SUMMARY:Landscapes on Display at UCC Keene in February
DESCRIPTION:An exhibit of landscapes of the Monadnock Region by photographer Betsy Zimmerli and her late husband\, painter Ed Zimmerli\, is on display in the East Room\, lower level\, of the United Church of Christ in Keene through the month of February. The exhibit is open to the public\, free of charge. \nThe gallery is open Sundays after worship services\, 11 am to noon. The weekday entrance to UCC-Keene is at the rear door off Vernon Street\, where there is a doorbell for visitors if the double doors are locked. This is also a handicapped accessible entrance. \nBetsy Zimmerli began her interest in photography back in her high school years\, when film was in black and white only. She moved with the times to the automatic features of digital photography and especially enjoys the landscape opportunities of the Monadnock Region. She also enjoys using a digital program to enhance her photos with various “painting” effects. \nEd Zimmerli\, now deceased\, began painting when he and Betsy moved to Keene more than 20 years ago. He sang bass in the Church choir for many years. In his art\, he used a palette knife exclusively\, which gave an impasto effect to his landscapes and barn images. Included in this exhibit is his pen and ink sketch of Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, from a cover of Ebony Magazine in the 1970s.
