She and Covenant Living Chaplain Becky Poor will discuss\, “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers\,” by Loung Ung. \nLoung Ung is a childhood survivor of the Cambodian genocide under the regime of Pol Pot. Her book is a riveting narrative of war crimes and desperate actions\, the unnerving strength of a small girl and her family\, and their triumph of spirit. \nPastor Cindy traveled to Southeast Asia and spent time in Phnom Penh learning about the genocide and naming it “one of the most horrific events in human history.” \nThe film\, “First They Killed My Father\,” produced and directed by Angelina Jolie\, will be shown at 7 pm\, on Wednesday\, March 13\, at Covenant Living of Keene. \nCopies of the book are available at the United Church of Christ office\, 603-352-4136. I also paint when I am away in the tropics\, and have many tropical island scenes.” \nMs. Hulslander is a member of the Monadnock Area Art Association and has won multiple awards at the annual Art in the Park in Keene. She says\, “Once you realize you can paint\, nothing is the same. You walk in a vivid world of opportunity. Every flower garden that grows\, each twinkle of ocean water\, a city scene in front of you\, a homeless person on the street or dogs in a golf cart… they are all potential paintings.” \nThe exhibit is open from 11 am to noon every Sunday\, and by appointment during the week by calling the church office\, 603-352-4136. It is the main fundraiser for the Youth Group’s mission trip to Providence\, RI\, in June. \nMembers of the Youth Group will greet you\, lead you to your table\, and serve you. The menu includes pasta\, choice of sauces\, salad\, and bread. A dessert bar is included. \nThere are four seatings: 5 pm/5:30 pm/6 pm/6:30 pm \nGuests are asked to arrive promptly and keep seating time to 50 minutes\, to accommodate the next party. \nThe “restaurant setting” is on the second floor of the Parish House at the back of the United Church of Christ in Keene. DESCRIPTION:The Gift of Uncertainty \n13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it\, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables\, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed\, some fell along the path\, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places\, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up\, the plants were scorched\, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns\, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil\, where it produced a crop—a hundred\, sixty or thirty times what was sown.  Matthew 13:1-8 \nWhen we allow ourselves to accept the journey within the Dark Woods\, the Holy Spirit trends to shake things up a bit as we begin to awaken to nudgings toward a fuller life. But life is messy. Life is uncertain. Rather than a problem to be solved\, what if we saw uncertainty as a gift helping us let go of all we cannot know so that we can live more wholeheartedly? All are welcome. Enter through the handicapped accessible entrance off Vernon Street. \nThe gallery is open from 11 am to noon on Sundays\, and between 9 am and 1 pm\, weekdays. Call ahead to the church office\, 603-352-4136\, or ring the doorbell to enter. The gallery is closed on Saturdays. \nStephanie Baute enjoys taking photos that capture meaningful moments in time\, whether in the life of a flower\, a bird\, a person or a day. She began taking photos of family and more recently took courses in person and online. Sue Doyle studied fine arts at Elmira College and Syracuse University and taught art at middle and high school levels. Her favorite art form is drawing\, and 15 years ago her fascination with layering colors led her to colored pencil. \nBoth artists live in Keene.
