DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for the 33rd annual Messiah Sing in Keene at 7 pm\, Sunday\, December 15\, at the United Church of Christ in Keene\, 23 Central Square\, Keene. Come to sing in the balcony or to listen in the pews below. \nUCC music director Beverly Caldon will lead the string quartet\, organ\, vocal soloists\, and community chorus members in Part I\, the Christmas Section\, and the “Hallelujah” Chorus of Handel’s masterpiece. \nSoloists for this year’s Messiah Sing include Matthew Leese\, bass; Brittney Redler\, soprano; Pamela Stevens\, mezzo-soprano; and Kirk Bobkowski\, tenor. The organ is a Berkshire-Gilbert instrument with three manuals and forty ranks of pipes. It was recently repaired to its glory after a ferocious lightning strike three years ago. \nSuggested donation for this community Messiah Sing in Keene is $10. Scores are available to borrow and a reception follows in the Church Parlor. \nThere is an accessible entrance to United Church at the rear of the building\, off Vernon Street\, with an elevator to the Sanctuary on the second floor. \nBeverly Caldon began the Keene Messiah Sings in 1988\, with only one weather cancellation and two years off for Covid. Singers and audiences travel from Vermont\, the greater Keene area\, and northern Massachusetts. It’s common to hear\, “It doesn’t feel like Christmas until I sing ‘And the Glory of the Lord.’ ” Come to sing or to listen\, but come for the community Christmas joy!

DESCRIPTION:During Snow and Ice Festival Feb. 1 \nThe UCC-Keene Youth Group will host family-friendly activities and food in the East Room and Chapel on the first floor of the United Church of Christ\, 23 Central Square\, during the Keene Snow and Ice Festival\, an outdoor event that takes over downtown Keene on Saturday\, February 1. \nAll are welcome to come in from the Snow and Ice Festival. The Youth Group will offer games and crafts and food and warmth. Donations to their activities will go towards the Youth Group’s Spring Service Trip to Puerto Rico.

DESCRIPTION:The East Room Gallery is awash in the bright and cheerful citrus colors of paintings by Keene artist Cherry Hussey this winter. The gallery is located on the first floor of the United Church of Christ in Keene\, 23 Central Square. \nCherry paints scenes in either oils or acrylics of warmer places she has visited while traveling around the world for her job. She sketches ideas for paintings on site and from memory. When not traveling or painting warm landscapes\, Cherry sings in the choir of the UCC-Keene. Her paintings are not for sale. \nThe East Room Gallery is open to the public from 11 am to noon on Sundays\, and also by appointment. Contact the Church office\, 603-352-4136. There is an accessible entrance from Vernon Street at the rear of the Church building. All are welcome.
