Lenten Sacred Circles, 2016
Sacred Circles, 2016
This year Ash Wednesday is on February 10th, the beginning of Lent. The Adult Spiritual Formation Committee is now responsible for Sacred Circle programs, and, after careful thought, we have decided to try something new in place of the home gatherings UCC-Keene has done in recent years.
We are asking you to reserve the five Wednesday evenings after Ash Wednesday, February 17th through March 16th, for our series of Sacred Circle programs. An enthusiastic consortium of church committees is hard at work putting together plans for 5:30-7:30 evenings in the church with a format that will look something like this:
5:30 to 6 Light supper in the dining room
6 to 6:30 Brief worship service in the chapel
6:30 to 7:25 Break out into one of three groups
7:30 Benediction and dismissal from the chapel
The Sacred Circle Break-Out Groups will be:
I. Intergenerational topics and activities, led by Christopher Cornell
II. Book Study for Lent: Traveling the Prayer Paths of Jesus, by John Indermark led by Pastor Christine
III. Faith through the Arts
Week 1. Faith through Music—Holy Hymnody
led by Bev Caldon and Jean Nelson
Week 2. Faith through Cinema—Oh God!
led by Art Simington
Week 3. Faith though Literature—The Devil you Say!
led by George Russell
Week 4. Faith though the Fine Arts—Seeing Faith
Week 5. Faith though Poetry—“Batter my heart, three-person’d God …”
led by George Russell
We hope you will find this year’s journey through Lent engaging and meaningful and hope you can be a part of as many of the programs as you’re able.
