Wood artist Mark Aron learned to make guitars 25 years ago, then branched out to epoxy/resin river tables and wall art made from exotic woods from around the world. His wood artistry is on exhibit in the East Room Gallery of the United Church of Christ in Keene from December 1 through January 2025.
Here is Mark’s statement:
“Twenty-five years ago I visited the Martin guitar factory in Nazareth, PA, while vacationing in the Pocono mountains. They sold parts to make your own guitar, but that was beyond my abilities. When we got home, I found out Al Carruth (a luthier) in Newport, NH, gave lessons on building guitars. I traveled to Newport every Saturday for 2 and 1/2 years to learn the craft. It opened up a whole new world of working with fine wood with hand tools. I still build a guitar from time to time, but now concentrate on epoxy/resin river tables and wall art made from exotic woods from around the world.”
Mark Aron’s exhibit of wood guitars, tables, and wall art is free and open to the public. The East Room Gallery is on the ground floor of the UCC-Keene Church, 23 Central Square. There is an accessible entrance via the rear door of the building, off Vernon Street.
Call the Church office (603-352-4136) if you wish to visit during the week, 9 am to 1 pm. The church is closed on Saturdays; open on Sundays from 9 am to noon.
