Racial Justice
Since the 1800s, our Congregational ancestors played major roles in the abolitionist movement. This commitment has continued throughout our nation’s struggle for civil rights and racial justice. UCC Keene’s Racial Justice Team addresses God’s call for peace, diversity, and equality. From the George Floyd Sacred Ally Quilt project to a four-part workshop on Speaking with Children About Racism, this group welcomes all who care deeply about this issue.
Creation Justice
The national UCC has been at the forefront of the environmental movement since its inception in the 1970s. Our Creation Justice Team embodies this commitment to care for our planet as an expression of faith and spirituality. From book studies, to planting a pollinator garden in our Church Park, to working on disability access to local trails, to recycling, this group works to educate, advocate, and provide hands-on solutions for addressing the climate crisis and promoting sustainability. Please join us if you share our concern and have a passion for this mission.
Open and Affirming (LGBTQIA+ Rights)
Since 2011, The United Church of Christ in Keene has aligned itself with the national United Church of Christ as an Open and Affirming church, declaring: “With God’s help and grace we covenant to welcome and support all people, including those of every race, ethnicity, ability or disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, political opinion, and marital and economic status. We declare our openness to and affirmation of all people.” Our Open and Affirming Team works to honor this commitment through special worship, educational initiatives, and active support for LGBTQIA+ issues in our community. If you or someone you know are touched by this issue, you are welcome to join us in this mission.
Economic Justice
In partnership with the Monadnock Interfaith Project, this group focuses on issues of economic justice, especially the affordable housing crisis in the City of Keene and statewide. From door-to-door canvassing to educational programs to developing innovative housing solutions, this group plays a key leadership role in organizing the Keene community for positive change. Participation in any or all these activities is always welcome!
