On June 14, at the 2026 Annual Meeting, the congregation of the United Church of Christ in Keene voted unanimously to adopt the Creation Justice Covenant presented here:
We, the members and friends of The United Church of Christ in Keene, New Hampshire, acknowledge that God is the author of all creation, seen and unseen, known and unknown. In this context, we are humbled by the beauty and complexity of this planet we call home. As co-inhabitants of the Earth, it is neither ours to master nor exploit. Following the teachings and example of Jesus Christ, our mission is to bring love and compassion to all our relationships, including the environment God created.
By this Covenant, we commit ourselves to proactively caring for our earth—its creatures, landscapes, waters, and skies. We seek justice for those citizens of the human and natural world who cannot speak for themselves, especially those who suffer from the abusive actions of humankind.
Given the ongoing ecological degradation of our planet and the potentially catastrophic consequences for all Creation, we commit ourselves with an urgent sense of calling to care for God’s world by raising environmental awareness through education, activism, and sustainable practices. We make this covenant before God our Creator, Jesus the Redeemer of Creation, and the Holy Spirit the Sustainer of Creation.
