Two Pollinator Gardens Being Built at UCC Keene’s Elsie Priest Park and Playground

The UCC Keene Creation Justice working committee is installing two pollinator gardens at our Park this growing season. Pollinator gardens are important since they create an environment where pollinators (insects who carry pollen from plant to plant) are encouraged to visit. Pollinators are recognized as being in decline and this is an important trend to reverse. The UCC Keene Creation Justice team received a boost from the Cheshire County Conservation District who awarded the group a 2022 grant to assist them in their work. Already volunteers – including the Scouts of Pack 302 – have begun readying and turning the soil. The volunteers leading the project have researched extensively and the gardens are expected to grow and evolve over a number of years. Educational opportunities will be explored and offered as these gardens evolve. We hope you stop by and check out the progress over the months ahead. The park and playground is located at Court and Vernon Street in downtown Keene.
